Frequently asked questions

What is JCC Gives?

Jesus College Cambridge's second Giving Day, taking place over a 60 hour period on 5 – 7 March 2024.

It's an opportunity for the College community all over the world to come together and make a significant and lasting difference to the lives of Jesus students. As part of JCC Gives we have several challenge and matching funds waiting to be unlocked, meaning gifts towards the Giving Day go much further than usual.

During this challenge, we are aiming to raise as much as possible to support our students.

What difference will my donation make?

Your gift today will enable students from all backgrounds to come to Jesus and make the most of their time here irrespective of their financial circumstances.

All gifts, whatever size they may be, add up. Having a large number of donors encourages others to support us too. So whatever you can give you can be sure that your contribution is effective and greatly appreciated.

Why is JCC Gives different to any other day?

Gifts made to JCC Gives will go even further than usual. Thanks to a few extremely generous individuals, a certain amount raised will be matched pound for pound. Furthermore, several donors have provided challenge funds that will be unlocked once we achieve particular goals. Take a look at the ‘Challenges' page on 5 – 7 March 2024 to see if your gift is eligible to unlock funds.

NB: For tax purposes, donors who participate in the giving challenges will be credited for their individual contributions only.

How can I make my gift?

We want to make it easy for you to participate in JCC Gives, and gifts can be given a variety of ways on the day:

Online: through jccgives.jesus.cam.ac.uk

By phone: call +44 (0)1223 339301

By post: cheques (made payable to ‘Jesus College Development' and completed donation forms can be sent to Development and Alumni Relations Office, Jesus College, Jesus Lane, Cambridge, CB5 8BL.

If you would like your postal gift to be counted (and therefore eligible to unlock challenge funds), please ensure we receive it no later than Tuesday 27 February 2024.

Can I make a gift before JCC Gives?

Yes! We know that all donors' schedules may not allow them to participate during the Giving Day itself. You can send your gift by post or make a gift online through the website in advance. Please be sure to indicate that your gift should support "JCC Gives".

How can I help spread the word?

Your support will make a huge difference to the success of our Giving Day and to the difference we can make to students' lives. We would be very grateful if you could help us spread the word about JCC Gives, by liking and sharing our posts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X in the lead up to the day and on the day itself. If you'd like to do a bit more to help spread the word, you could share the link to our JCC Gives site or share your own post encouraging others to get involved and support our Giving Day. Make sure you use the hashtags #JCCGives and #AlwaysAJesuan, and tag us in your posts so that we can see them! Word of mouth is helpful too, so please tell your Jesus friends about our Giving Day and encourage them to get involved.

Is my credit card payment secure?

Yes, we're using a secure, off-site payment processor called Stripe to process our credit card transactions.

Why is my payment not going through?

Please check that you have included your postcode in both the address field and the card details field of the gift form. If there is still a problem, you may have to contact your card provider and inform them that the payment is valid. For any queries please do contact us.

Is there a minimum or maximum donation I can make?

There's no minimum or maximum donation, and no limit on the impact you can make.

Can I claim Gift Aid on this donation?

Yes! So long as you're a UK taxpayer and you have paid as much Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax as the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year, the College can reclaim the basic tax rate (25%) on your gift, with no extra cost to you. So your donation of £100 will actually be worth £125.

Will my JCC Gives contribution be tax-deductible?

UK: If you're in the UK and eligible for Gift Aid, the College can claim 25% back in tax from your donation. If you pay income tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your self-assessment tax return or ask HM revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.

USA: Gifts are processed via Cambridge in America and are tax efficient.

CANADA: We can provide a receipt from the University for tax payers in Canada.

Why am I receiving emails from jccgives@alumni.jesus.cam.ac.uk?

We've partnered with digital fundraising experts, Hubbub, to help us run JCC Gives. When you make a donation online, you'll receive an email from jccgives@alumni.jesus.cam.ac.uk. In the lead up to and throughout JCC Gives, you'll also receive update emails from the College.
